By becoming a member of the Employer Obligations Association of Australia (EOAA), you can tap in to a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from our specialist roles in Big 4 accounting firms, corporates and practice experience.

We understand the interaction between employer obligations, but more importantly, we understand the competing needs of HR, Payroll, Finance and Taxation teams when managing employer obligations. Our Leadership Team

Paul Mather – Managing Director

Paul Mather

Paul is the Founder of the Employer Obligations Association of Australia (EOAA). Paul has over 20 year’s experience in helping businesses across all industry sectors meet their ongoing Employment Taxes, Payroll and Indirect Taxes obligations.

In 2009, Paul founded FBT, Payroll & Salary Packaging Solutions. Prior to this, he worked for 10 years as a Director of Employment Taxes for Ernst & Young in Sydney. Paul is a Registered Tax Agent (TAN 3966 6003), a Chartered Tax Adviser and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in both Australia and New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University in New Zealand and a Master of Taxation from Sydney University.

Paul was a member of the former ATO NTLG FBT-subcommittee Group from 2005 to 2013.


Jo Yin – Membership Manager

Jo-Yin

Jo is responsible for managing member queries (both technical and general) and member liaison. Jo is responsible for on-boarding new members.

Jo has over 8 years’ experience managing payroll in small to medium sized businesses. In addition, Jo has a strong background in a number of accounting roles.

Jo brings a wealth of experience across a range of industry sectors along with a broad range of skills including technical review and analysis of payroll, managing and processing payroll, salary packaging, fringe benefits and ATO / OSR reporting procedures. Jo has experience with managing the end to end accounting function including periodic and annual requirements.

Jo holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and a Certificate in Payroll. She is fluent in both written and spoken Mandarin.


Ron Sergeant – Technical Manager

Ron-Sergeant

Ron is a CPA and FTIA with a wide range of tax, payroll & accounting experience in large to medium sized corporates and professional services firms. Ron holds a Bachelor of Tax from the University of New South Wales.

Ron has in-depth experience in all areas of employer obligations, including Payroll, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, FBT, Salary Packaging, Employee Share Plans and Employee Expenses.

Ron was previously the In-House Tax Manager at Ernst & Young for five years. Prior to that Ron was Tax Manager at TNT Australia Ltd. Before TNT he was Indirect Taxes Manager for Email Ltd, a large diverse Australian manufacturing company producing widely known household products (e.g. Westinghouse, Kelvinator, Simpson, Chef, Brownbuilt, Dorf, Lockwood and Whitco).

Ron has a great understanding of audit & compliance having previously worked as a Senior Investigation Officer with the Australian Taxation Office auditing taxpayers’ records.
